Mineowners in Chhattisgarh Hold Public Hearing Despite Public Curfew | COVID-19

 

Our Community Correspondent Rajesh Gupta reports from the Doomrapali village in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district where a huge public gathering was organized when the whole city was under a lockdown.

During the second wave of COVID-19 in Chhattisgarh many cities including Raigarh went into a complete lockdown and section 144 (curfew) was imposed. It was impossible for anyone to be out for reasons other than emergency or for essential items.

However, Bhatia Energy organized a huge public gathering to decide on the expansion of a local coal mine. No social distancing was followed and many were without masks. The bigger question is why does the law act differently for different people?

A local lawyer, Tanmay Banerjee sent an application to the local District Collector reporting the blatant violation of his own passed orders and yet nothing was done.
